Why are there crosses on my new prescription sunglasses?

I just got these new prescription sunglasses, and for some reason they've got these white crosses across each one of the lenses. You can't tell that they're there when you're wearing them, but they're very noticeable from the outside. Is this just a fashion thing? Can I remove them?Tad
